The Nokia N8 has finally begun to ship, according to reports on the official Nokia blog. The post states that “The first Nokia N8 devices have left the factories in Finland and China and are now making their way around the world.”

Users that have pre ordered the device will be the first to receive the N8, however Nokia has warned that the process may take a while, with the launch marking their biggest volume of pre orders to date: “the Nokia N8 is shipping in tens of different languages to dozens of operators around the world. That isn’t something that happens overnight [...] Whilst the first lucky users will be unboxing their Nokia N8 before the weekend, others can expect to be receiving theirs over the coming days and weeks.”

The long anticipated N8 has been subjected to 2 official delays by the company, which has frustrated users awaiting the device’s arrival. With the original arrival date of June being shelved due to software renewal issues, the device was then promised for the end of September. The first shipments of the device mean that Nokia will hit their second scheduled date, just; however the majority of users will not be able to utilise the device until around mid October depending on the swiftness of the shipping process.

It is 2009 and we declare it the year of the touch screen. People are clamoring to keep up with the waves the Apple iPhone 3G have already made and the latest line to jump on board is Sony Ericsson.

At the Mobile World conference this weekend Sony Ericsson announced several new phones that are scheduled for release later this year. The phone that has been making the most noise however is the “Idou“. This is currently the code-name for Sony Ericsson’s first full touch screen phone slated to be released in the second half of 2009.

Here are some of the features that have really caught our eye:

* 12.1 Megapixel camera (!!)
* Beautiful 3.5 inch full touch screen interface
* Symbian S60 open source OS
* Accelerometer

Sony Ericsson and Vodafone's W715 Walkman arrived a bit late to the CES party, but we're always happy to talk about a new Sony Ericsson set. The W715 looks to be the twin of the previously announced W705, but with a color change, and a bit of frequency shuffling. Lifting up the hood we see that this new and exclusive to Vodafone slider boasts a 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, aGPS, WiFi, DLNA certified, 120MB memory, quad-band GSM, and 900 / 2100 HSDPA. Shipping seems set for Q1 2009 and we expect we'll hear something on pricing real soon now.

Sony Ericsson introduced W61S the new 5.1-megapixel camera
phone from the Cyber-shot series with 3x optical zoom and
smile shutter technology. This slider phone features “Exmor”

Close on the heels of the new Nokia N95 8GB model, Nokia announced the new Nokia N81 and N81 8GB models. The N81 features dedicated keys for gaming and music and offers a 3.5 mm headphone connector. Compatible with 3G networks, the phone also offers wireless LAN connectivity. Nokia is touting a new 3D multimedia menu on the N81, but I'll believe it when I see it.

The Nokia N81 lets you access the Nokia Music Store and N-Gage games services, allowing you to search, buy and manage your music and games. Expect the Nokia N81 to be priced at €360, and the 8GB model at €430. Both mobile phones will hit the markets in Q4 2007.

course there are no specs for the Aeon yet,

If you're not aware that Nokia is relaunching the N-Gage, you should be. They've got it right this time, turning N-Gage into a platform that runs across (eventually) all of Nokia's Nseries handsets. And better still, the company is coming out swinging against comparisons with Sony Ericsson's rumoured PlayStation phone.

"I'm not scared about anybody," says Jaakko Kaidesoja, head of games at Nokia. "The real question is how do they [Sony Ericsson] do it? Can they create a link between the PSP games and a phone? Can they do the multiplayer and online stuff? We've been doing this for two years and it hasn't been easy."

Meanwhile, Nokia is preparing to commercially release the new N-Gage application for its N82 and N95 handsets, adding to the N81, while Kaidesoja says that making N-Gage games touchscreen-compatible is also on the agenda.
